LaGrange Rotary Club sends 4,000 Christmas Cards to U.S. Troops

LaGrange Banking Company

The fourth annual LaGrange Rotary Club Christmas Cards for Troops collected more than 4,000 Christmas cards to send to U.S. Troops stationed in Iraq and Afghanistan.  The project is designed to supply each soldier several cards and envelopes to send to family and friends back in the states during the holidays.  The LaGrange High School Service Club has assisted with the project for the last three years, collecting more than 2,100 cards this year.  LaGrange Banking Company employees, spearheaded by Jessica Banks (sister of Joey Scott, an Afghan War injury survivor), also volunteer their time to address, box and ship the cards.  During the four years, more than 11,000 cards have been sent to the troops.

Project chairman, Charles Sweat, LaGrange Banking Company President and CEO, commented “This year’s support has been overwhelming in that we have actually collected more cards than we might be able to send.”  When asked whether the extra cards would be saved for next year, Sweat commented: “We hope there is no need for the project next year,” referring to his hope that both wars have ended and the safe return home of troops is complete.
